How old are the bugs? - A short road to fame
Bagebi is one of the most prestigious and sought-after districts of Tbilisi, which has been actively developed over the past few decades. In 1961, it was incorporated into the capital as a rural settlement. The peripheral agricultural zone has been gaining momentum since the 1970s, when student dormitories were built here. Its planning and urban development began in the 1980s, and it is from this period that it begins to take shape in its modern form. Therefore, we can say that the history of the Bagebi district dates back about 4 decades.
Initially, Bagebi was mainly inhabited by small individual houses and cottages. Since the 1990s, the wealthy class of Vake-Saburtalo has begun to settle in Bagebi, which has given the district a great impetus. However, it should be noted that until now it was still considered a satellite district of Vake (as part of the Vake district) and was intertwined with it. Therefore, the identity of people living in Bagebi is still connected to Vake. This is the reason why we very rarely encounter the term "Bageli".
Over the past 10-15 years, the area has become increasingly prestigious. The ecologically clean environment, the nearby Vake Park and Turtle Lake, and good connections to the city center - all this makes Bagebi one of the most desirable residential areas. Today, Bagebi is associated with coziness and a high quality of life.
Bagebi is one of the most interesting districts in terms of development, which has significantly changed its appearance in the last few decades. If earlier this area was considered the periphery of the city, today it is one of the most prestigious and sought-after residential areas in Tbilisi. The reason for its success is its geographical location, ecological environment and elite residential projects, which give the district a special status.
